Today, I’m in Hawaii. I actually wrote this post before I left because there’s no way I was taking my laptop with me… I’ve got to leave room for shopping, after all. 😉
When I look back, it’s crazy how many places I’ve travelled to. I truly feel blessed to have had the opportunities I’ve had to go to the places I’ve gone. Growing up, I never thought I would get very far yet I always dreamed of seeing places like France and Italy for myself. To be able to see all the places I had dreamed and read about always seemed like an unreachable goal.
About 3 years ago, I was going through a really rough patch. I wasn’t sure what my future was going to hold or what I wanted to do. So, when a friend at work was planning her trip overseas and she turned to me and said, “come”. It didn’t take much convincing for me to say, “why not”.
After months of planning and prepping, we made our way to Europe for a 3 week adventure to all the places I had only dreamed of seeing. We spent two amazing days walking around Paris, shopping, talking to the locals, taking in the culture and history. I’m pretty certain I spent those two days walking around with my mouth wide open in awe.
After this, we joined our tour group. We toured with Globus Tours. The great thing about their tours for us was that they’re not like those party tours you see a lot of people going on. That’s simply not my scene. I was there to see the countries, take in the history and cultue, and of course, shop!
From Paris, we headed through France to Switzerland. We spent one day in Switzerland where I was amazed at my friend’s ability to communicate with the locals from her time spent there years earlier. Our suitcases were already starting to get a bit full at this point.
From Switzerland, we went to Italy then through Austria to Germany. After Germany, we headed to Amsterdam. At which point, my friend and I left the group and headed back to Germany for one more day before heading home.
I’ll go into this trip, and other travel adventures I’ve had in future posts because I really want to share these experiences with you all. There’s just so much to share! Other places I’ve travelled to, separate to this trip, are USA, Canada, Australia and Samoa. When I’m back from Hawaii, I’ll be sure to tell you all about my time there to begin with.
For a young girl who grew up in Hamilton, New Zealand, who dreamt of travelling to Europe one day, my list of places I want to go has expanded phenomenally. I cannot wait to see the rest of the world. As a wise man once said, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” – Saint Augustine
Travelling has opened my eyes to the world. I have had the greatest adventures and met the best people through travelling. I’ve also since found myself in the habit of travelling someplace new every year and I intend to keep this up as best as possible for as long as I can. I already have potential next trips planned out in my mind. I look forward to making these happen. I highly recommend that, if you can, you take every opportunity to travel.
