I first met Jenn when I became her Team Leader a while back and my first impression was, “how the hell am I going to be a leader to this wild, independent, strong and determined chick!? She’s so damn cool! As I got to know her more and learned about her life, her travels and her passions, I found myself fascinated and inspired.
Unlike myself, she’s a free spirit. Willing and able to pick up and move as she pleases and explore new places without a plan, without preparation, just a desire for adventure and a willingness to explore and discover what the world has to offer. In our time working together, I feel I learned more from her than she did from me. I admired her ability to follow her heart and to chase her desires.
Jenn is one of the most kind-hearted, generous and down-to-earth people I’ve met on this planet. She has a vibrant and positive vibe that’s contagious and inspiring. She is absolutely a person you’ll want to get to know. As a writer, she’ll dive deeper into her story and experiences, where she’s been to the unknown future. But, I’ll let her introduce more of herself in her own words below.
Tell us a bit about yourself:
I’ve been told that I’m a slightly unusual human with a pretty unique perspective… I think it comes from from a near-death experience at a young age, or maybe from constantly moving throughout my entire life. Whatever the reason, I find it hard to be motivated by normal things, like beauty, belongings or bank balance- instead I’m constantly on the search for the next big life changing thing. I’m impulsive and wild and maybe a little bit crazy …
I was born in Canada and moved away as soon as I was old enough to fly solo – I booked an open ended trip to China and stayed for a year. The travel bug was obviously not satiated by one year abroad, and would eventually lead me to selling all of my possessions and saying goodbye to my home indefinitely. It’s been nearly 6 years since I first landed in New Zealand, and one thing or another keeps bringing me back – the latest was the handsome guitarist of a Kiwi band. We met, fell in love quickly and got married not long after. You’ll get to know both of us, and our story through my blog, so I’ll save it for now… but sufficed to say that it’s a good one!
Why did you start blogging:
I’ve always been in love with writing, but lately the focus has shifted; these days I tend to write to understand this life I’m living, and (if I’m totally honest) to understand this girl who is living it.
What can we expect to read in future posts?
At the moment the fella and I are trying to figure out exactly what we want out of this whole ‘life’ thing… We know what the rules say: Marriage, house, children, retirement – while we totally see how that works for other people we aren’t sure that’s what we want. We don’t know if we want kids, we definitely don’t want a mortgage, and we’re kind of partial to living as though we’re retired right now. This puts us in a pretty unusual place.
You’ll probably find me working through these experiences, or begrudgingly wading through the murky waters of adulthood… something like that.
