I have a problem with New Year’s resolutions and this is why…
Every year, we get hit with the “New Year, New Me” posts, the “This year is my year!”, and then in late January these sentiments are followed up by “January was just the trial month…”
PLEASE stop putting “Use By” dates on your dreams.
Every year, month, day, hour, minute, second is a chance to start over. If you want to make a change in your life, you don’t need to wait for any date to make that change, just do the damn thing! It doesn’t matter where or when you start, as long as you just START.
For myself, I look at tangible or measurable things I want to achieve rather than “this year I’m going to be a better person/lose weight/eat better”. For example, I want to build an above ground veggie garden in the back yard and grow my own vegetables so that eventually I can enjoy my home grown produce – and if I have better access to fresh vegetables, obviously I will be encouraged to eat better.
Think about the things you want to achieve and:
- break them down into smaller measurable goals,
- make a plan to keep yourself on track
- if you fall down, you can start again!
Don’t be discouraged if you eat a whole pizza on a Friday night, or skip a day or two at the gym – and don’t measure your own progress against others! Just believe in yourself.
If you are coming to the end of January and find that you are less motivated, don’t hesitate to send me a message if you want help or inspiration to carry on.
2018 is the year we stop talking and start doing.
