You Got This!


If you knew how many times I told myself this in a day, you would probably laugh. But you know what, those three simple words have been truly powerful for me. Let me tell you why.

Ever since I can remember, I was a quitter. I quit everything I ever started doing. I don’t recall finishing any lessons or achieving a heck of a lot growing up. Maybe I did, but I don’t remember any of them. The only thing I have stuck with for a long time is Professional Wrestling.

Since becoming a professional wrestler, I have also achieved other things. I’ve pushed myself to knew limits. I’ve accomplished things that 16-year-old Sarah would be completely amazed and proud of. I know for a fact that she had never imagined being where she is today or having accomplished all that she has.

A lot of the reason that I’ve had such success in achieving the things I’m proud of, such as finishing my boxing match last year and writing this blog consistently for the past 6-7months, is the support I’m surrounded by. I truly feel blessed to have some of the amazing support that I have.

Take my boxing match, for example. I had the support of my trainers, my family, friends and most importantly, my partner. He saw me through some rough times. He reminded me why I was doing what I was doing. He would tell me what I needed to hear, never what I wanted to hear. As much as it pained me to admit he was right, his honesty and strength helped me finish the fight and be proud of myself for what I had done.

All the support I had for the fight was amazing. It blew me away and yet, there was one person whose support I needed more than anyone else. Me.
I needed to believe in myself more than anything. If I didn’t believe that I could do it, there was no way I would have made it through. There were definitely times I wanted to quit. Even during the fight, I remember standing in the corner and saying, “I can’t”. My corner men had no time for that nonsense. Hearing them tell me that I could do it, I jumped back in for the next round and begun to tell myself “You got this! Come on!” When the negative thoughts popped in my mind, I stand to override them with, “YOU GOT THIS!”

I am a firm believer that your thoughts 100% impact your world. Negative thoughts feed and fuel negativity. With positive thoughts, you can inspire and achieve greatness for yourself. After all, I finished that fight! If I can do that, you can achieve anything!

When I said that If you knew how many times I told myself this in a day, you would probably laugh. I meant it. For example:

• In my day job, I facilitate learning sessions. Before a session begins, I’ll take a deep breath and tell myself, “YOU GOT THIS!”
• When I’m pushing myself at the gym or am in a session with my trainer and I feel like giving up, I tell myself, “Come on! YOU GOT THIS!” And I proceed to push out 5 more reps, when I had thought I was ready to give up.
• During a wrestling show, before I step through the curtains, I stand there, I pace a bit and then I take a deep breath and I tell myself, “YOU GOT THIS!” And then barge through the curtains with gusto!
• Before having a challenging business conversation, I tell myself, “YOU GOT THIS!”

And so many more times throughout the day when I think I need a boost.

I don’t know if other people hear me and frankly, I don’t care. Because you know what, “I GOT THIS!”
